Trump is grifting money away from GOP must win uncalled races

Trump sends out a fundraising email that appears to be for the remaining three GOP Senate candidates with races uncalled. But if you click through, the only joint fundraising committee is Walkers. Click through again, Trump takes 9/10 of the $ (unless you change the ratio)

The pollsters may not be asking about it but there’s no doubt that the Democrat Party was partly doomed by its decision to go all in on gender ideology. We successfully made this a losing political issue for them.

Florida legislature prepares to reduce abortion rights

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article268575212.html

Supercharged by a super-majority in the House and Senate, Florida legislative leaders broke their silence Wednesday and confirmed they are prepared to discuss further abortion restrictions in Florida in the next year. But how far they will go is the big question, and interviews with the presiding officers indicate they already appear to be taking different approaches.

Incoming Senate President Kathleen Passidomo told the Miami Herald/Tampa Bay Times in an interview that she wants to see the 15-week ban approved last year by lawmakers reduced to 12 weeks with the addition of an exclusion for rape and incest, which is currently not allowed.

Pollster Who Convinced Republicans There Would Be a Red Wave has not been seen since election night

Meet the Pollster Who Convinced Republicans There Would Be a Red Wave
Turns out he was super-duper wrong. About almost everything. Whoops!

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/11/trafalgar-group-terrible-polling-2022.html

Robert Cahaly in the midst of saying something that probably turned out to be wrong.

What’s going on here? Well, Trafalgar founder Robert Cahaly is a longtime Republican operative (one who, as you can see from the TV screenshot above, lends himself an air of intellectual authority by wearing a bow tie).

_____

A 2020 New York Times article about the company—published before Biden’s victory, even—noted that “Trafalgar does not disclose its methods, and is considered far too shadowy by other pollsters to be taken seriously.” But it does release crosstabs, i.e., breakdowns of polling responses by subgroup, which allow observers to see under the hood at least a little bit to find out how it gets its overall numbers.

As for Cahaly’s reaction to the red wave that wasn’t, well, he hasn’t been on TV or posted on Twitter since just before results started rolling in on Tuesday night.

Democrats surprise Republicans in battleground Wisconsin

https://apnews.com/article/2022-midterm-elections-wisconsin-milwaukee-madison-f8b50e7f4133fe53e0c8939ca03d44f0

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democrats outperformed expectations during the midterm elections in battleground Wisconsin, leaving Republicans shocked at the narrower than expected win by two-term incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson and a further eroding of support in reliably conservative Milwaukee suburbs.

The biggest win for Democrats came with Gov. Tony Evers beating back a challenge by Republican Tim Michels to win another term, tripling the margin of his first win four years ago in a race that polls had shown for months to be about even.

“I think there was some genuine surprise the red wave didn’t show up in some races where they thought it would,” said Republican strategist Brandon Scholz. “There was a surprise that things tightened up because everyone got caught up in that wind tunnel of ‘We’re going to win this, we’re going to win that,’ and it just didn’t happen.”

There were gains by Republicans, although none were unexpected

Hey, Hollywood! Elon Musk Is Turning Your Tesla Into a MAGA Hat on Wheels!

Hey, Hollywood! Elon Musk Is Turning Your Tesla Into a MAGA Hat on Wheels!

The car is sleek, cool, and lets you virtue-signal at 60 mph. But the more Twitter’s new owner opens his mouth, the more embarrassing it is to drive one

-----

“Elon Musk is lighting the social cachet of owning a Tesla on fire,” tweeted University College London professor Brian Klaas (who obviously hasn’t yet got around to canceling his Twitter account). “A lot of people are going to start feeling more sheepish driving around in one given his conduct.”

University of Southern California professor Kevin Stone echoed the sentiment (again, on Twitter). “Here in CA, I’ve lost track of the number of Tesla owners who say they’ll never own another Tesla,” he wrote, adding that Musk could be “bringing in conservatives into Tesla ownership, so it might be a wash.”

Anti-Abortion Groups Are Extremely Pissed About the Election

Anti-Abortion Groups Are Extremely Pissed About the Election
"We have a popular position. The biggest problem we have is a lack of leadership at the top,” said one leader, completely missing the lesson.

Anti-abortion groups have taken a breath and now solemnly understand that their position is deeply unpopular, with a full two-thirds of Americans supporting legal abortion in all or most cases, and they are pivoting to advocating for things that actually help people, like universal healthcare, a higher minimum wage, and affordable childcare. Lol just kidding!

“We have a popular position. The biggest problem we have is a lack of leadership at the top,” Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser said on a press call Wednesday.

-----

A different anti-abortion group looked at the results in Wisconsin—where voters re-elected Gov. Tony Evers (D) and prevented the state house from getting a veto-proof supermajority—and did not deduce that their position is a lost cause, but rather that they simply need to target young voters next time.

“We had a historic amount of young people turning out to vote, and abortion was a driving factor for those young people,” Gracie Skogman, spokesperson for Wisconsin Right to Life, told Politico. “Unfortunately, for the pro-life movement, they don’t share our position on life.”

Notably, not everyone in the space is quite so delusional. Now that anti-abortion ballot measures have been defeated by voters in Kentucky this week and Kansas in August, one leader did recognize that these measures are a risk for their side. Politico wrote: “Anti-abortion groups did not seem eager to put the issue to more statewide popular votes, with Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins calling it a ‘risky tool, often used to pump up voter anxiety to get out the vote.’”

While they are like-minded on some issues, there are significant differences in others. There is a 20 percentage-point gap between Latino and white Republican voters on the issue of abortion: Around 46% of Latino Republicans said abortion should be legal, compared to 26% of white Republican voters.

Latinos who voted Republican in House races were also more likely to say climate change is a somewhat or very serious problem. Around 57% of Latino Republican voters held that view, compared to 45% of white Republican voters.

Section of Challenger found on ocean floor

https://apnews.com/article/challenger-space-shuttle-found-in-ocean-064e47171452894d6494f142fea26126

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A large section of the destroyed space shuttle Challenger has been found buried in sand at the bottom of the Atlantic, more than three decades after the tragedy that killed a schoolteacher and six others.

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center announced the discovery Thursday.

“Of course, the emotions come back, right?” said Michael Ciannilli, a NASA manager who confirmed the remnant’s authenticity. When he saw the underwater video footage, “My heart skipped a beat, I must say, and it brought me right back to 1986 ... and what we all went through as a nation.”

It’s one of the biggest pieces of Challenger found in the decades since the acciden t, according to Ciannilli, and the first remnant to be discovered since two fragments from the left wing washed ashore in 1996.

Divers for a TV documentary first spotted the piece in March while looking for wreckage of a World War II plane. NASA verified through video a few months ago that the piece was part of the shuttle that broke apart shortly after liftoff on Jan. 28, 1986. All seven on board were killed, including the first schoolteacher bound for space, Christa McAuliffe.
