A Jefferson County Circuit Court judge who signed the flawed search warrant that led Louisville Metro Police officers to Breonna Taylor’s apartment the night she was fatally shot has been ousted from her position by voters.
Judge Mary Shaw, of District 5, fell short of securing her position on Election Day to Tracy Evette Davis.
According to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, Davis received 51% of votes with 100,870 votes cast in her favor, compared to Shaw’s 98,503, or 49%.

Ahead of the Tuesday night decision, Shaw faced immense criticism and backlash for her involvement in the signing of the falsified warrant, which ultimately resulted in the death of Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman and Louisville emergency room technician, in March 2020.
The warrant was one of five obtained by detectives who were looking into potential drug trafficking in Louisville, according to the Department of Justice. The primary target of the investigation was Jamarcus Glover, Taylor’s ex-boyfriend and a man who had been previously arrested for drug trafficking.

False narratives about voting in the midterm elections proliferated on the platform, which has shed half its employees since Mr. Musk bought the company last month
Before the sky had fully lightened in Arizona on Tuesday morning, one of the most pervasive false narratives of the midterm elections was already spreading on Twitter.
More than 40,000 tweets about malfunctioning voting machines in the state’s Maricopa County were posted in the span of two hours in the morning, according to the Election Integrity Partnership, a coalition of online information researchers. Nearly 19,000 tweets specifically mentioned Maricopa alongside terms like “fraud,” “cheat” or “cheating,” according to the research group Zignal, which were references to the debunked belief that the glitches were the first signs of widespread voter fraud.
As the day went on, unfounded claims about hiccups at other polling places around the country, bad advice about voting protocol, and incorrect assumptions about assorted anecdotes and footage circulated widely on Twitter, which Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, took ownership of last month.
The midterms were the first test of Mr. Musk’s Twitter and how it would perform in combating misinformation and toxic speech since he slashed 50 percent of the company’s staff last week in a cost-cutting purge. And while viral falsehoods have become a hallmark of modern elections on most online platforms, the quality of content on Twitter on Tuesday was worse than it should have been, researchers said.

Then there was the role of abortion. In both surveys, around 60 percent of voters said they were dissatisfied or angry about the Supreme Court overturning its Roe v. Wade precedent, and those voters broke heavily for Democrats. In the network exit poll, nearly four in 10 voters said they were “angry” about Roe being overturned, and Democrats won 85 percent of them. Those voters made up about a third of the total electorate.
Key demographic groups also helped determine the election. There was a significant gender gap, though the network exit poll showed a larger difference between men (Republicans +14) and women (Democrats +8) than AP Votecast.
White voters broke for Republicans by an 18-point margin, according to the network exit poll — but Democrats actually carried white voters with college degrees by 7 points, even as Republicans won whites without college degrees by a whopping 34 points.
Republicans also made small inroads with voters of color — particularly men. Democrats carried Black men by 65 points and Latino men by just 8 points, while Black women (Democrats +78) and Latina women (Democrats +33) were more resistant to the GOP.

The midterm election results strengthened President Joe Biden’s hand and weakened former President Donald Trump’s. That is the starting point for the road to the White House.
In 1994, Republicans won 54 House seats and their first majority in 40 years. President Bill Clinton was reelected two years later. In 2010, Republicans added 63 seats. President Barack Obama was reelected two years later.

“The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion,” Associate Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the Supreme Court’s majority opinion striking down 50 years of federal protection for abortion earlier this year. The words unleashed chaos across the U.S., casting innumerable patients and providers into legal limbo. By election day, abortion was inaccessible in more than a quarter of the country, thanks to pre-exsisting laws that went into effect following the Court’s decision.
Now, the citizens have finally had their say: in at least 4 out of 5 states where abortion rights were on the ballot — including the ruby red commonwealth of Kentucky — voters have fortified protections and rejected measures that would have led to new restrictions on the procedure. (In state number 5, Montana, where final results aren’t yet available, it’s looking promising as well.)
Voters in Vermont and California both moved to enshrine the right to abortion in their state constitutions — victories that, given the states’ political compositions, were not particularly surprising. But Michigan followed suit as well, passing a measure that protects a woman’s right to make reproductive decisions and prohibits prosecution for exercising that right. The measure also, importantly, invalidates any state laws that may conflict with it. That means that an existing 1931 abortion law on the books in Michigan, which the members of the state’s GOP-led House and certain county prosecutors were itching to enforce, will be now nullified.
Even more consequential, however, was the triumph for reproductive rights in Kentucky, where abortion has been illegal since the Supreme Court’s decision in June. Voters in Kentucky soundly rejected an initiative that would have stripped protections from their constitution and paved the way for lawmakers to further restrict the procedure. Rachel Sweet, campaign manager for Protect Kentucky Access, the group that worked to defeat the proposed amendment, called the win “historic.”

Several hours before polls opened on Tuesday for Election Day in Florida, former President Donald J. Trump warned the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis, against mounting a challenge to Mr. Trump’s own anticipated presidential candidacy in the 2024 election cycle.
“If he runs, he runs,” Mr. Trump said of Mr. DeSantis to a handful of reporters traveling with him on his private plane — recently refurbished and put back into use — after a rally Monday night in Dayton, Ohio.
But Mr. Trump added, in remarks published on Tuesday by The Wall Street Journal, “If he did run, I will tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering. I know more about him than anybody other than perhaps his wife, who is really running his campaign.”
The former president, preparing to announce a rare candidacy for the White House after a defeat, was thus openly threatening to smear the person who would be considered his leading rival, should he choose to run.
