Chicago officers are under investigation after video shows police shooting a man at a train station

Chicago officers are under investigation after video shows police shooting a man at a train station

A video recorded by a bystander shows the officers struggling to restrain a man near an escalator at the station. The officers take the man down and within seconds, one of them is seen lying on top of him and attempting to handcuff him.

As they continue struggling, one of the officers is heard repeatedly shouting "stop resisting" while the man responds, "I didn't do nothing to you."

Both officers used stun guns on the man, police said.

The video shows police struggling with the man for several minutes before he breaks free from being pinned on the ground. At that point, one of the officers yells "shoot him!" and the other fires toward the man. The officer who fired the weapon shot at the man twice, police said in a statement.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition after surgery, police said.

Gloria Schmidt Rodriguez, an attorney representing the man, told CNN he suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and another wound to the buttocks area. It appears that he will undergo more than one surgery, she said.

The police department reached out to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office to review the incident for possible criminal charges, according to a statement by the attorney's office. The State's Attorney's Office is working with the FBI on the investigation.

The officers won't be assigned field duties and will be on desk work pending the outcome of an investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the police department said. The officers were not named by police.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot described the video as "extremely disturbing" and said that while the video does not depict the entirety of the incident, the officers' actions were "deeply concerning."

'Thank you, God': Trump revels in reign as absolute king of CPAC

At the grassroots conservative gathering after fronting a coronavirus briefing, the president was back in his happy place

Stop Donald Trump now, Democrats warned at his impeachment trial, or will he take on the aspect of a king.

The prophecy appears to have been borne out, as the US president hands out jobs to loyalists, purges perceived enemies, pardons convicted criminals and swaggers as if with a divine right.

On Saturday, addressing the biggest annual gathering of US grassroots conservatives, Trump wondered aloud at it being “sort of a miracle” he has got so much done despite all he’s been through.

“Maybe it’s right there, right?” he asked, pointing to the heavens. “Thank you, God.”

The crowd loved it. Trump stayed away from a sceptical Conservative Political Action Conference in 2016 but now he is its sun king. Supporters in a palatial ballroom at the National Harbour leaped to their feet, whooping and cheering, many wearing “Make America great again” and “Keep America great” caps.

They roared their approval when, like a medieval monarch who has survived a bloody insurrection, Trump vowed revenge.

“They’re coming after me and we fight them back,” he said. “And now we’re going after them because we have no choice. We have to straighten out our country. But despite the best efforts of the leftwing fanatics, their scams, schemes, slanders, they’ve all been discredited, totally discredited.”

He singled out James Comey, whom he fired as director of the FBI, and special counsel Robert Mueller, who led the Russia investigation, as enemies whose heads deserved to end up on metaphorical spikes.

“How is Comey doing?” he asked, sardonically. “How is Bob Mueller doing? That was a great performance in Congress. ‘Raise your right hand.’ ‘What?’”

There was also mention of the Utah senator Mitt Romney, who voted to convict Trump at the impeachment trial and, like a rebellious duke, was banished from CPAC this year. Trump described Romney as “lowlife” and the crowd booed lustily.

New NOAA Hurricane Dorian emails show how tenuous scientific credibility is in the Trump era

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/new-noaa-hurricane-dorian-emails-show-how-tenuous-scientific-credibility-is-in-the-trump-era/ar-BB10xtmO

The emails, released as part of a Freedom of Information Act request from The Washington Post and other media outlets, demonstrate the tenuous state of scientific credibility in the Trump era, even at a federal agency with decades of service — NOAA dates to 1970, while its National Weather Service has its roots in the 19th century.

Yet all it took was a six-day period featuring a few tweets from President Trump and a Sharpie-modified hurricane forecast map in the Oval Office followed by a politically motivated statement about the storm’s path to cause some citizens to regard the agency’s work as tainted by political interference.

---------------------

In past disease outbreaks, such as the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and SARS, the CDC and experts from other federal science agencies dealt directly with the media.

A stormy six days
Many of the emails concern Trump’s inaccurate assertion in a tweet from Sept. 1, 2019, in which the president claimed that Alabama “will most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated” by the Category 5 storm. They also concern a controversial unsigned statement that a NOAA representative issued on Sept. 6. That statement criticized the National Weather Service forecast office in Birmingham for a tweet that contradicted Trump’s claims.

The statement was widely interpreted within NOAA’s National Weather Service as contradicting an accurate forecast because of political pressure from the White House and the Commerce Department. The Post has reported that the demand for NOAA to issue the statement came from White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, at the request of the president, via officials at the Commerce Department.

The new emails released Friday include messages sent from members of the public to Ken Graham, the director of the National Hurricane Center, and other officials, expressing frustration with NOAA’s Sept. 6 statement and a newfound distrust of its forecasts.

In one email to Graham, a member of the public wrote of concerns about NOAA’s forecast accuracy.

“I live on the east coast of Florida,” the person wrote. "For all of my adult life I have relied on upon the scientific honesty and ethics of NOAA in general, and the National Hurricane Center specifically, to provide accurate storm information.”

“I was heartsick and dumbstruck to see the NOAA announcement today supporting the president’s ludicrous and psychotic defense of his Alabama forecast garbage. Mr. Graham, as a fellow scientist and professional, would you kindly reassure me that the politics of a lunatic will not be affecting the science done at NOAA and the NHC?”

This reporter was on her game. She asked Trump if using the word HOAX at his Rally will make people take the Coronavirus less seriously. His answer is garbage! He will never take responsibility for anything!

Donald Trump Jr. suggested that Democrats are rooting for millions to die

Witness this interview that Don Jr. did with "Fox & Friends" on Friday morning:

Brian Kilmeade: And so now we're getting to sprint towards November for -- to -- to see if your dad can get four more years. Are you surprised the way they've been handling the coronavirus situation, meaning Democrats?

Don Jr.: Not at all. I mean, we've seen -- like you said, we've seen this play out for four years. Anything that they can use to try to hurt Trump, they will. Anything he does in a positive sense, like you heard from the reporter that was just suspended from ABC, they will not give him credit for. The playbook is old at this point.

But for them to try to take a pandemic and seemingly hope that it comes here, and kills millions of people so that they could end Donald Trump's streak of winning, is a new level of sickness. You know, I don't know if this is coronavirus or Trump derangement syndrome, but these people are infected badly.

OK, so. The President's eldest son, who has made no secret of his interest in running for office and maybe even president in the future, is suggesting that Democrats are rooting for coronavirus to come to the United States and kill "millions of people" solely so that they might have a better chance of winning in November.

What can you say about that line of logic?
https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/28/politics/donald-trump-jr-coronavirus-democrats/index.html

At its most basic level, this sort of stuff from Don Jr. is deeply irresponsible.
