lauded narcotics detective makes mistake. leaves his McD receipt in drug package he steals from

Alone in his white Chevrolet Tahoe — outside the UPS global shipping hub where he worked with an elite task force to intercept drug shipments — Willett tore the packing tape off a box, pried open a metal safe and stole piles of cash totaling about $40,000.

But the Louisville Metro Police veteran, well trained in exposing criminals' missteps, made an elementary mistake of his own.

He used his credit card for the $4.76 McDonald's meal and then forgot to remove the receipt from the fast-food bag he crumpled and stuffed inside the box before sending the package on its path to Oakland, California.

Willett didn't know that a West Coast drug interdiction task force anxiously awaited its delivery. A judge had already signed a search warrant to allow investigators to open the package, as it was expected to contain valuable evidence.

Many narcotics detectives trusted Willett.

Lauded as one of Louisville Metro Police's most accomplished detectives, Willett was once featured on the true crime TV show "The First 48," discussing key evidence seized in a double homicide.

And sometimes when the task force supervisor couldn't be on site, he was left in charge.

But in June 2016, the phone rang at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. California police were on the other line with details about how their drug investigation hit a snag when the $40,000 in cash, their evidence, was stolen.

Koch brothers kill of public transport projects to protect their auto/asphalt roads businesses

n cities and counties across the country — including Little Rock, Ark.; Phoenix, Ariz.; southeast Michigan; central Utah; and here in Tennessee — the Koch brothers are fueling a fight against public transit, an offshoot of their longstanding national crusade for lower taxes and smaller government.

At the heart of their effort is a network of activists who use a sophisticated data service built by the Kochs, called i360, that helps them identify and rally voters who are inclined to their worldview. It is a particularly powerful version of the technologies used by major political parties.

In places like Nashville, Koch-financed activists are finding tremendous success.

Early polling here had suggested that the $5.4 billion transit plan would easily pass. It was backed by the city’s popular mayor and a coalition of businesses. Its supporters had outspent the opposition, and Nashville was choking on cars.

But the outcome of the May 1 ballot stunned the city: a landslide victory for the anti-transit camp, which attacked the plan as a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money.

---

Public transit, Americans for Prosperity says, goes against the liberties that Americans hold dear. “If someone has the freedom to go where they want, do what they want,” Ms. Venable said, “they’re not going to choose public transit.”

The Kochs’ opposition to transit spending stems from their longstanding free-market, libertarian philosophy. It also dovetails with their financial interests, which benefit from automobiles and highways.

One of the mainstay companies of Koch Industries, the Kochs’ conglomerate, is a major producer of gasoline and asphalt, and also makes seatbelts, tires and other automotive parts. Even as Americans for Prosperity opposes public investment in transit, it supports spending tax money on highways and roads.

Stephen Miller planning new immigration crackdowns: to limit legal immigration

Trump aides plan fresh immigration crackdowns before midterms
White House policy adviser Stephen Miller wants to make sure the president can show he’s doing something about border control.

By NANCY COOK 06/18/2018 04:34 PM EDT Updated 06/18/2018 06:12 PM EDT

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/06/18/trump-aides-plan-fresh-immigration-crackdowns-before-midterms-652246

The goal for Miller and his team is to arm Trump with enough data and statistics by early September to show voters that he fulfilled his immigration promises — even without a border wall or any other congressional measure, said one Republican close to the White House.

Among the fresh ideas being circulated: tightening rules on student visas and exchange programs; limiting visas for temporary agricultural workers; making it harder for legal immigrants who have applied for welfare programs to obtain residency; and collecting biometric data from visitors from certain countries.

Details of the ideas are still being worked out, one White House official said.

In one of the most closely watched plans under discussion, DHS has proposed a new rule that former Obama administration officials and immigration advocates worry could be used as an end run around a 1997 court settlement that limits the time migrant children can be kept in government custody. Putting a formal government rule in place, lawyers and advocates say, could in effect supersede the settlement, allowing the administration to get rid of it altogether by dropping the rule a year or two later.

“Once you rescind that regulation, then you go back to being able to do whatever you want and the detention becomes the complete discretion of ICE,” said Leon Fresco, former deputy assistant attorney general for the Office of Immigration Litigation at the Department of Justice. “That is where people think this is headed.”

$4,000 a minute pours in to help reunite separated immigrant families

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/19/us/facebook-fundraiser-raices-trnd/index.html

In less than three days, a California couple has raised over $3 million -- and counting -- through Facebook to help reunite undocumented families that have been separated at the border.

Charlotte and Dave Willner were inspired to start the campaign when they saw the viral image showing a frightened, crying 2-year-old girl looking up to the adults around her after crossing the border. The girl, who was with her mother and others, had rafted across the Rio Grande and the group was stopped in Texas by US Border Patrol agents.

Ivanka's deafening silence and insensitive posts

When Ivanka Trump took the stage at the Republican National Convention in 2016 to stump for her father, then-candidate Donald Trump, she presented herself as the champion of women's rights in her father's future presidency.

---

And yet, despite her claims of championing women's causes, Ivanka has largely failed to make progress on any of the issues she said she would spearhead.

The left-leaning Center for American Progress (CAP) even said that Ivanka's "sporadic forays into discussions about her issue priorities, more often than not, have been largely rhetorical with few details and little concrete analysis of the economic, racial, gender, ethnic, geographic, and other differences that can influence policy needs and outcomes."

---

And yet even her stepmother and a former first lady have not been able to persuade Ivanka to speak out.
In fact, she appears to be pouring salt onto the gaping immigration policy wound, posting photos of her beautiful, intact family to her Instagram account.

But why is Ivanka doing this? It's one thing not to make a comment despite being one of her father's closest advisors, but it's quite another to continuously make these truly insensitive posts.

Does Trump have anyone spending fathers day with him? He Is tweeting nonsense

President Trump on Sunday assailed the “Fake News” media and critics who claimed he gave away too much at his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by saying “we got so much for peace in the world.”

“The denuclearization deal with North Korea is being praised and celebrated all over Asia. They are so happy!,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Over here, in our country, some people would rather see this historic deal fail than give Trump a win, even if it does save potentially millions & millions of lives!”

Then he lashed out at media outlets where some pundits questioned the photo-op between Trump and Kim in Singapore last week, arguing that the North Korean despot got a propaganda win just by being photographed with a world leader.

https://nypost.com/2018/06/17/trump-slams-critics-of-his-north-korea-summit/?utm_source=NYPTwitter&utm_medium=SocialFlow&utm_campaign=SocialFlow

”Funny how the Fake News, in a coordinated effort with each other, likes to say I gave sooo much to North Korea because I ’met.’ That’s because that’s all they have to disparage! We got so much for peace in the world, & more is being added in finals. Even got our hostages/remains!,” Trump said in a series of tweets about his Singapore summit last week.
