As she receives end of life hospice care.. Emmitt Till's accuser photographed first time in 20 years

Carolyn Bryant Donham, now 88, has managed to go unseen since 2004, going on to live a long life - and now spending her final days in apparent tranquility - despite her role in 14-year-old Emmett Till's lynching in 1955

At the time Donham was a 21-year-old married mother-of-two who accused the young black boy of whistling at her - a violation of the South's racist societal codes - at a Mississippi store, setting off his brutal murder

Today, she is living in a small apartment community in Kentucky with her son, Thomas Bryant, 71, and their pet shih tzu, as seen in these exclusive DailyMail.com photos

Donham, who was wearing a nasal cannula looped over her ears and into her nose, suffers from cancer, is legally blind, and is receiving end of life hospice care in her home

When approached by DailyMail.com, Donham stood by silently behind her son, who shook his head when asked if either would speak about Till

Till's beaten and mutilated body was thrown in the Tallahatchie River in Mississippi, weighted down with a large fan from a cotton gin, before being pulled out three days later on August 28

Donham's then husband Roy Bryant and his brother John Milam were later tried and acquitted of Till's murder, while she went on to evade charges or any consequences in a case that shocked the world for its brutality

An unserved warrant for Donham's arrest was discovered by a team led by relatives of Till last month, bringing the case back into focus

The book ban movement has a chilling new tactic: harassing teachers on social media

The book ban movement has a chilling new tactic: harassing teachers on social media
Educators who stand up to conservative activists are being harassed and called “groomers” online, turning them into potential targets for real-world violence.

Nancy Vera was awakened suddenly at midnight on July 12 by the sound of a single gunshot fired into her yard. She looked at a security camera just in time to see a truck speed away.

Vera was shocked but not surprised. The president of the Corpus Christi, Texas, branch of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), she had recently handed out books with LGBTQ characters at a pride event for local students, alongside a drag queen.

“This type of rhetoric is going to get people killed,” she says.

Corpus Christi, where Vera lives, has become a flashpoint for a growing push among Christian and conservative groups across the US to get certain books and topics they deem inappropriate for children removed from school libraries and curriculums. Now the fight is turning increasingly ugly, with people targeting individual teachers’ private social media accounts for scrutiny and even harassment.

On July 9, the conservative group County Citizens Defending Freedom (CCDF) held a public seminar in Corpus Christi about monitoring school curriculums and “researching social media of teachers, school board members, staff of school districts and elected officials,” effectively teaching people how to stalk and harass educators online.

Golf's Tournament at Trump's Golf Course Totally Bombs: $1 StubHub Tickets, 1000 watching

LIV Golf’s Big Tournament at Trump’s Bedminster Golf Course Totally Bombs: $1 StubHub Tickets and Anemic Viewership

The Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour has, by any measure, brought no shortage of controversy with it. But judging by the anemic attendance and super cheap tickets available on StubHub for this weekend’s event at former President Donald Trump’s New Jersey golf club in Bedminster, the controversy has not helped its business.

The fledgling professional golf tour hosted just its third event this past weekend, which took place roughly an hour from New York City, and received a ton of free promotion solely from the controversy surrounding it. Families of victims of the attacks of 9/11 — the majority of hijackers were Saudi nationals — openly complained about pro golfers, and former presidents, engaging in such a lucrative manner with the Saudi family who was at least tangentially related to the most deadly attack on US soil in history.

Turns out that not many people were interested in turning up for the event. Writing for The Washington Post, Rick Maese reports:

Measuring its popularity is tricky, in part because the start-up doesn’t seem concerned about traditional metrics in these early stages. Unlike at other pro golf events, there aren’t corporate logos and signage littering the course. Though the LIV Golf social media accounts are active, there is no television rights deal and no commercials on the streaming broadcasts.

Fewer than 1,000 people were concurrently watching the Facebook Live feed for much of the first two rounds this weekend, while LIV Golf’s YouTube channel was at or above 60,000 viewers for much of Saturday’s second round. On the course, there were far fewer people. Event officials didn’t announce attendance, though most estimates suggested only a few thousand spectators. Tickets sold for $75 per day but could be had on the secondary market for $1 apiece (plus $5.05 in fees via StubHub).

Voter registration soared after Roe fell

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Voter registration is increasing at astronomical rates, according to the group, Vote.org.

“For Kansas and Missouri registrations, comparing Friday, June 17 to Friday, June 24, we saw a 1,038% increase in Kansas and a 627% increase in Missouri,” Nick Morrow, director of communications for Vote.org, said in an email Monday.

From June 24 to Monday, Wyandotte County has received 600-900 new registered voters. Election Commissioner Michael Abbott said that’s a lot for the county, and it’s a big increase before the primary coming up Aug. 2.

“The turnout in 2018 primary was 25%,” Abott said in an interview with FOX4 Monday. “We’re looking at probably 40 to 45% turnout is what we’re estimating.”

Abbott said his office is getting ballots ready for a 60-65% voter turnout ahead of the primary just to be on the safe side. He said voter registration is up because of what’s come to be known as the Value Them Both amendment.

“Especially with Roe v. Wade on the 24th, we got a lot more applications,” Abott said. “The following day, it was hundreds, and it’s been like that steady since. So for our county to get 600-900 new voter applications in that time period is a lot.”
