Family Discovers An Owl Has Been Living In Their Christmas Tree for a week

Newman told CNN that she was clearing dinner last Thursday when she heard India exclaim, “Oh my gosh!” from the living room.

“She comes very dramatically into the dining room and goes, ‘Mama, that ornament scared me,’” Newman said. “Then she bursts into tears.”

Newman told CNN that she’s a fan of owls and has about a dozen owl ornaments dangling from her tree. She walked to the tree and was prepared to tell India that she’d just gotten spooked by a holiday decoration. But when Newman peered into the branches, a living owl turned its head and stared right at her.

“And I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s a real owl,’” Newman said.

Unsure of what to do, Newman called the Department of Natural Resources, which directed her to local nonprofit Chattahoochee Nature Center, according to a blog post from CNC.

“I told her I would try and catch it and do an exam,” Dawn Ellerman, a wildlife technician with CNC, said in the blog post. “If it needed immediate care she would take it to a rehabber.”

Ellerman left the family with some food, supplements and advice on how to urge the owl back into the wild, suggesting the family leave the bird in a crate in a darkened room and open it outside after dark.

Newman later posted another photo of the owl in the tree after she had left the bird a plate of raw chicken.

He Recalled His Winter With No Heat - Florida businessman pays off utility bills for 36 families

He Recalled His Winter With No Heat. Out Came His Wallet
Florida businessman ponies up $4.6K to pay off utility bills for 36 families

https://www.newser.com/story/284563/he-spent-a-winter-without-heat-now-36-families-wont-have-to.html?utm_source=part&utm_medium=uol&utm_campaign=rss_world_img_b

When Michael Esmond saw the Dec. 26 due date on his utility bill, he had a flashback to 1983. "My gas was shut off, and we had no heating for the whole winter," one of the coldest ever in Florida, the 73-year-old father of three tells CNN. Indeed, as the temperature dipped to 9 degrees on Christmas Day, "we had icicles hanging off our windows," the Gulf Breeze business owner tells the Pensacola News Journal. His thoughts upon receiving his most recent bill immediately turned to those who might suffer a similar fate this year. Now, 36 families won't have to. Esmond, of Gulf Breeze Pools and Spas, tracked down a list of accounts with overdue bills, then paid $4,600 to settle them. The community's utility billing supervisor was left in tears, as was mother of four Angela Cascio, who received the good news in a holiday card.

"You can rest easier this holiday season knowing you have one less bill to pay," read the note, which prompted Cascio to burst into tears. "Angels absolutely walk among us," she told the News Journal in a Facebook message, noting her children, ages 7 to 17, might otherwise have gone without Christmas presents. "I am forever grateful. Esmond tells CNN there's been "great feedback" on Facebook, while people have also been calling and texting him with their thanks. "I wanted to do something that I felt would really help people at Christmas" and "it makes me feel good," the Vietnam veteran tells the News Journal. "I'm finally at a point in my life where I'm not struggling with bills anymore and I can share some of my success," he adds. "You don't have to be a millionaire to help people." Instead of sending out notices that their gas and water were being shut off, the city sent out cards notifying the 36 households of Esmond's act of kindness:

"It is our honor and privilege to inform you that your past due utility bill has been paid by Gulf Breeze Pools and Spas," the card read. "You can rest easier this holiday season knowing you have one less bill to pay."

-------

Angela Cascio was stunned when she checked her mailbox a week ago and found the Christmas card letting her know her utility bills had been paid.

The mother of four kids between the ages of 7 and 17 had gotten behind on her payments and was struggling to keep up while also buying gifts for Christmas.

"Without (Gulf Breeze Pools) paying that bill, my kids' Christmases would have greatly suffered," Cascio told the News Journal in a Facebook message on Monday. "Angels absolutely walk among us, and they are the epitome of kindness and what 'paying it forward' means to me."

Cascio said she couldn't help but cry when she read the card and realized her debts had been paid. She has since made an ornament depicting the Nativity scene and is planning on giving it to Esmond to thank him for what he did for her.

"My kids are old enough that they see their mom struggle to make ends meet," she said. "They saw me burst into tears when I read the card that Gulf Breeze Pools sent to me. I am forever grateful."

Did Trump go too far even for Trumpsters? article says they "groaned" at his Dingle remarks

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-12-19/trump-ridicules-michigan-congresswoman-and-her-late-husband

President Donald Trump on Wednesday attacked Representative Debbie Dingell and her late husband during a campaign rally in the Dingells’ home state of Michigan.

Trump was railing against Democrats who voted to impeach him when he turned his sights on Debbie Dingell, lamenting that he gave former longtime Representative John Dingell an “A+” memorial service only to be repaid by the congresswoman with her support for the two articles of impeachment.

The president said Dingell had offered him “profuse” thanks for lowering U.S. flags in honor of her husband’s death in February and that he would be “looking down” and “so thrilled” with the honors he received. But Trump said John Dingell might have been looking on from someplace else.

“Maybe he’s looking up, I don’t know. I don’t know, maybe. Maybe. But let’s assume he’s looking down,” Trump told a crowd of supporters in the city of Battle Creek, many of whom groaned at the remark.

Trump implied Dingell is "looking up" from hell... was the remark even too much for his Trumpsters?

Don Jr Under Federal Investigation Over Exotic Animal Poaching Crimes
By Gloria Christie -December 18, 2019
What must it be like to grow up in a family where the law only applies to other people? To believe that others were just marks to be conned? To believe that winning at any cost was fine no matter the harm? Donald Trump Jr. grew up in that family, and now he is under federal investigation.

The president’s eldest son enjoys hunting. He did not go on this hunt for food. Instead, he took a rifle with a laster into the dark Mongolian night and bagged a rare, endangered sheep. This was how he had fun, felt macho, claimed the trophy. According to The Roll Call, animal conservation activists claim that he may have:

Donald Trump Jr. released a statement fo CQ Roll Call. In it, he claimed that he bought his hunting expedition from a National Rifle Association fundraiser. He said that this was in 2015 and well before his father became president or even announced his candidacy:

The allegations have been turned over to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). The agency will investigate the charges that Don Jr. killed a rare sheep on this hunting trip into Mongolia. The charges included importing parts of the sheep back to America — all illegal acts.

Voting Rights Advocates Vow to 'Organize Harder Than GOP Can Suppress' After Judge Orders 200,000 Vo

Pro-democracy advocates on Saturday vowed to ensure all Wisconsin voters are permitted to vote in the 2020 election after a state judge ordered more than 200,000 voters to be purged from the rolls.

The state had sent letters to 234,000 people who were believed to have moved, who were told they would be removed from voting lists if they did not respond within 30 days—but that the purge would not take place until 2021.

Conservative group Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty filed a lawsuit, saying the voters should be removed from the rolls before the next general election.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, 55% of the voters who were sent letters were in districts which Hillary Clinton won in 2016, including many in the state's two largest cities and in college towns.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder said the right-wing effort to create confusion among likely-Democratic voters in a state where President Donald Trump won by less than 23,000 votes in 2016 was "expected unfairness" from the conservative group.
