Conviction overturned for undocumented immigrant charged in death of Kate Steinle

The lone conviction for an undocumented immigrant whose actions resulted in the shooting death of a 32-year-old woman in 2015 has been overturned by an appellate court in California.
A jury acquitted Jose Ines Garcia-Zarate, 46, in 2017 of first degree murder, second degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and assault with a semiautomatic firearm for his role in the death of Kate Steinle.
Garcia-Zarate was convicted, however, on the charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
During jury deliberations, jury members asked the court for the definition of possession and if there was a time requirement for possession. The defense argued during the appeal that the trial court failed to instruct the jury that it could acquit Garcia-Zarate because he only possessed the gun for a moment.
On Friday, the First Appellate Court of Appeals in California, in a 3-0 decision, agreed with that defense.

Biden is ahead Trump by the most (16 points, 54% to 38%), while Buttigeg is up by the least (9 points, 49% to 40%).
What's the point: The Quinnipiac poll was the second probability poll that meets CNN standards and was conducted in August which found Trump down by at least 5 points against all his most likely challengers. In both the Fox News poll out earlier this month and Quinnipiac's latest, he trailed his most likely challenger, Biden, by double-digits. In fact, in an average of all the August polls (those that meet CNN standards and not), Biden was up by a 49% to 39% margin.
We're still over a year away from the 2020 general election, so don't take these polls to the bank.
Still, it's worth pointing out the historically bad position Trump is in. No incumbent president has ever polled this poorly against his likely challengers at this point in the campaign.
I went all the way back to World War II era in the Roper Center archive to see how presidents were polling at this point against their eventual challengers. I selected the worst poll for the incumbent if there was more than one poll taken in order to give Trump the most generous comparison. In years in which no polls were taken in August the year before the election (i.e. when the last poll for 2020 was conducted), I chose the poll taken closest to this point.
What's clear is the vast majority of incumbents were ahead at this point in the campaign: nine of the 11 were ahead. And for the average incumbent, they led their eventual challenger by 12 points at this point.

Jim Bakker, otherwise known as half of disgraced ’80s televangelist power couple Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker (remember the extreme eyelashes?) — has spent the past decade and a half quietly rebuilding his empire after serving nearly five years of a 45-year prison sentence (for fraud and conspiracy-related charges) from 1989 to 1994.
This is totally separate from the drugging and rape allegations from actress/secretary Jessica Hahn which had previously derailed his career in 1987.
Currently, it should come as very little surprise that the “reformed” Bakker is back at his crazy lies, now as a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and spewing dangerous rhetoric.
In a sermon recently flagged by Right Wing Watch, Bakker told his followers that if Trump doesn’t get reelected in 2020, that “leaders of the gospel and the political conservative leaders” are going to be murdered.
By who?
I’m guessing AOC and the other women in Congress who Trump supporters chant “send them back” at rallies about? The “deep state?” I’m sure Hillary Clinton is involved somehow as well. Who knows with these nutcases.
In a preface to his remarks, Bakker claimed that Trump was elected against all odds because “God’s people voted, and the world knows it, the enemies of the gospel know it.”
“I’m going to say something I probably shouldn’t say,” he continued, which is about the only part of his diatribe most people would actually agree with.
“What’s coming next, if we keep losing, you’re going to see the leaders of the church and the leaders of the gospel and the political conservative leaders that are powerful, you are going to see them suddenly die, suddenly killed. Suddenly as they were driving, suddenly as they were in a boat, suddenly in an airplane … You’re going to see it one after another.

A 51-year-old woman stabbed a three-year-old child on Pekini Street in Tbilisi while the boy was walking with his parents and little brother.
The footage that the police acquired from surveillance cameras located near the pharmacy shows that the family is walking along the street calmly when an unknown woman approaches them and runs her knife across the child’s face.
After that, cameras show that she wants to attack the second child, but the parents prevented her from doing so.
The boy’s parents say they’ve never seen the attacker before.
She managed to escape from the scene, but by morning the police had already detained the woman.
An ambulance delivered the child to the Zhvania clinic, where he underwent surgery.
The clinic said that the condition of a child who has cuts on his nose and cheek is evaluated as moderately severe.
The attending doctor Natia Vasadze says the child will remain in the hospital until his condition is satisfactory.
If convicted, she faces seven to 10 years.
