no one called 911, including state rep and police chief, as man lies in ditch dying for an hour

Judge rejects charge against Georgia lawmaker in hit-and-run

A judge dismissed a charge Tuesday against a Georgia state lawmaker, saying his failure to call 911 when a friend called him about a fatal wreck is not a crime. Polk County Superior Court Senior Judge Stephen Schuster ruled Rep. Trey Kelley could not be charged with reckless conduct because prosecutors did not claim the Cedartown Republican had committed an underlying crime. “No reading of either the hit and run statute or the reckless conduct statute leaves a reasonable person with the impression that a disinterested third party, not present for an automobile accident, who later learns of the purported accident is under a legal duty pursuant to the reckless conduct statute to immediately contact 911,” Schuster wrote.

Ralph “Ryan” Dover III hit Eric Keais on Sept. 13, 2019 ,in Cedartown with his SUV. Instead of calling 911, he called his friend, Kelley, officials have said. Kelley in turn called Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome at home, according to authorities. An officer was sent to the area, unaware someone may have been injured, and eventually found Keais lying in a ditch, gravely wounded. Keais died from his injuries soon afterward.

Polk County authorities have arrested 42 year-old Jason Myles Ingram, of Buchanan, this week after reports said he committed a hit and run that resulted in the death of another person over the weekend.

Reports said that Ingram struck a pedestrian on Cason Road near South Main Street in Cedartown early Sunday morning.

Investigators said that Ingram fled the scene in his red Ford Ranger.

The truck was later located on Benedict Loop a short time later.

Police said that the truck appeared to have been involved in a crash and Ingram was possibly intoxicated.

Ingram was arrested and is charged with hit and run, vehicular homicide, and DUI.

Diner Owner Who Defied Lockdown Dies of COVID

Diner Owner Who Defied Lockdown Dies of COVID
Michigan man John Parney was hospitalized for more than 2 months

A Michigan diner owner's long fight against COVID restrictions was followed by a long fight against the virus. John Parney, the 62-year-old owner of the Quincy Diner in Quincy, Branch County, died on Dec. 13, more than two months after he was first hospitalized, MLive reports.

In December last year, Parney reopened the diner for dine-in customers in defiance of state lockdown restrictions, saying his wife was suffering from stage four colon cancer and he couldn't afford to go without the income. He said he had lost too much money during the shutdown earlier in 2020 and was at risk of losing the restaurant, reports WILX.

Parney, a former Marine, is survived by his wife and three children. According to a GoFundMe fundraiser started by relatives, he was first hospitalized on Sept. 29 and released three days later, but was taken back to the hospital after two days when his symptoms "raged with a fierce vengeance."

"For those who will ask, no, John was not vaccinated from COVID-19," his relatives wrote. "However, during his battle, when he was able to talk, John shared with his family that he will be getting vaccinated because the battle, at that point, was worse than any training he endured in the military."
The fundraiser has now raised almost $23,000 of its $25,000 goal.

Congressman Madison Cawthorn, 26,and his CrossFit athlete wife to divorce after an eight-month marriage and allegations he sexually harassed more than 30 women: Cites pressure of 'hectic and difficult' job

North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn and his wife, Cristina Bayardelle Cawthorn, are divorcing after eight months of marriage
Cawthorn announced their separation Wednesday, citing his job as a Congress member as a factor in their split

He claimed the couple was 'committed to make things work' but quickly realized they were unable to balance his role as a public servant and their marriage

The couple wed in an intimate April ceremony after sharing a whirlwind romance; Bayardelle said she knew he 'was the one' after four months of dating

Their wedding followed an about six-month engagement
During their engagement, about 30 people accused Cawthorn of making unwanted sexual advances while he attended a Christian college in 2016

--------

In February, it was revealed that Cawthorn's ex-classmates claimed he sexually harassed women at Patrick Henry College in northern Virginia.

The alleged victims said they were warned not to go on so-called 'fun drives' with him in his white Dodge Challenger 'because bad things happened'.

A Box of Cash, a Secret Donor and a Big Lift for Some N.Y.C. Students

When he returned to teaching in-person this semester, Vinod Menon, a physics professor at City College of New York in Harlem, finally looked through a pile of office mail and found a cardboard box the size of a toaster.

The box, heavy enough to warrant $90 in postage for priority U.S. mail, was addressed to “Chairman, Physics Department” — his title.

Maybe it was a token of thanks from a former student, Dr. Menon thought, as he inspected the package, which was postmarked Nov. 10, 2020. It had been sitting for more than nine months, first in the campus mailroom and then in the physics office.

-------------------------------

But the matter contained in the cardboard box gave him quite a charge. It was full of $50 and $100 bills bundled in paper bands, totaling $180,000.

An enclosed letter to Dr. Menon explained that the cash was a donation meant to help needy physics and math students at City College.

“It was a complete shock — I know a lot of academics and I’ve never heard of anything like this,” he said. “I didn’t know if the college accepted cash, so I didn’t know if they’d keep it.”

The letter explained the donor’s motivations. “Assuming that you are bit curious as to why I am doing this, the reason is straightforward,” wrote the donor, who said he or she “long ago” took advantage of the “excellent educational opportunity” of attending both Stuyvesant High School and earning a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics at City College, which helped lead to “a long, productive, immensely rewarding” scientific career.

Democrats appear to gain edge in California House districts

https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Democrats-appear-to-gain-edge-in-California-House-16720958.php

----------

An analysis by Sacramento research firm Redistricting Partners found that 44 of the new California House districts would have been carried by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newson in his 2018 election, and 45 of the districts tilted to then-candidate Biden in the 2020 presidential race.

That’s an encouraging sign for Democrats, who hope to gain ground in California in 2022 after surrendering four House seats to Republicans in 2020. Democrats hold 42 of the state’s 53-seat House delegation — the largest delegation by far in Congress.

The revised lines were endorsed Monday by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, which was tasked with drawing new districts to account for shifts in population, a requirement that happens once a decade. Each district must represent 760,000 people.

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Hallie Balch said the panel had created “cakewalk districts” for most Democrats.

https://www.newser.com/story/314768/never-has-the-us-population-grown-so-slowly.html?

US population growth dipped to its lowest rate since the nation’s founding during the first year of the pandemic as the coronavirus curtailed immigration, delayed pregnancies, and killed hundreds of thousands of US residents, according to figures released Tuesday.

The United States grew by only 0.1%, with an additional 392,665 added to the population from July 2020 to July 2021, according to population estimates released by the Census Bureau, per the AP. The overall total inched up to 331.9 million, note the Wall Street Journal. The US has been experiencing slow population growth for years, but this was the first time since 1937 that the nation’s population grew by less than 1 million people

Talent Agency Drops Chris Noth And a third accuser surfaces

https://www.newser.com/story/314599/heres-what-lapd-is-doing-about-chris-noth-allegations.html

NEWSER) – Update: Trouble keeps growing for actor Chris Noth of Sex and the City fame. Talent agency A3 Artists has dropped him amid allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, reports the Los Angeles Times. Last week, two women accused Noth of sexual assault in a lengthy account in the Hollywood Reporter. After the allegations emerged, actress and director Zoe Lister-Jones accused Noth of misconduct, including inappropriate comments, on the set of Law & Order, per the Mary Sue.

While there is no investigation into the allegations of sexual assault recently leveled against Chris Noth, the Los Angeles Police Department says it is "looking into the nature of the report." One of the accusers says she was raped in LA, the other in New York, so the LAPD is looking into the report that falls in its jurisdiction. A department rep says there is no record of a report being filed in the incident, People reports; the woman says she spoke to police when she went to the hospital after the alleged assault but did not identify Noth.

Similarly, a spokesperson for NYPD tells E! there is no report on file for the other alleged incident; that accuser says she did not go to police. Noth has been married to Tara Wilson, whom he met in 2001, since 2012; they had their first child together in 2008 and their second last year, Us reports. The LA allegations are from 2004 and the NYC allegations from 2015; the NYC accuser claims Noth told her, "Marriage is a sham. Monogamy is not real." A third woman has since come forward to accuse Noth of being "sexually inappropriate" with her and other women on multiple occasions, Page Six reports.
