White Chicago drug dealer, 17, is given probation for fatally STABBING boy, 15, in marijuana sale gone wrong after judge said he is 'a bright kid with a bright future'
Cook County Judge Steven Bernstein sentence a high school drug dealer, 17, to three years probation for the 2020 murder of a Elias Valdez, 15
Valdez, an up and coming wrestler at the Glenbrook South High School, tried to take marijuana from the defendant without paying on August 5, 2020
The two fought in the streets until the defendant stabbed Valdez multiple times
Valdez's family had protested for the defendant to be charged with first-degree murder, but the teen instead pleaded guilty to second-degree murder
He was also sentenced to 100 hours community service and counseling sessions with his parents as the victim's family claims he benefitted from 'white privilege'
---------
Defense attorney David Kerstein said there was no incident of white privilege in the case and that the death resulted in the chaos of the violent conflict between the defendant and Valdez.
Kerstein said that Valdez, a rising star on the Glenbrook South High School wrestling team, managed to slam the '97-pound weakling' senior onto the concrete six to 10 times before they began fighting over the utility tool blade.
'It takes two to make a drug deal,' Kerstein said. 'Mr. Valdez was a buyer.'

Former Senate Candidate Found Dead in Hot Tub After Suffering Heart Attack: 'Maine Lost a Character'
Max Linn a former Maine Senate candidate who made headlines when he was dubbed the state's "COVID patient zero" by a former aide died in a hot tub after suffering an apparent heart attack Saturday, his lawyers confirmed. He was 62.
Linn, who ran for a seat on the U.S. Senate in 2020 as a conservative Independent, was a retired financial planner and Bar Harbor resident.
Linn finished that race in last place, running as a supporter of former Republican President Donald Trump after having moved to Maine from Florida nearly 5 years prior.
The news of Linn's death comes on the heels of a dispute with former campaign staffer, Matt McDonald. Linn is accused of pulling out a gun on McDonald in October during a dispute about cryptocurrency, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Prosecutors: Amtrak Engineer Ran 7-Year Chain Saw Scheme
Prosecutors: Amtrak Engineer Ran 7-Year Chain Saw SchemeAgents say Jose Rodriguez obtained the equipment for work purposes, sold it
A New Jersey man who worked for Amtrak for nearly 15 years now faces up to 20 years in prison for what he admitted doing on the job. Federal officials say Jose Rodriguez of Brick, NJ, obtained equipment under the guise of needing it for projects he was doing as part of his job as a senior engineer but then selling it.
Prosecutors say the 49-year-old had been running the scheme for the last 7 years, and that it ultimately totaled up to 114 chain saws and 344 chain saw parts. The equipment was worth $76,000, per the DOJ. Rodriguez on Monday pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud connected to his use of the Postal Service to mail the equipment to purchasers, who bought it from Rodriguez himself or via an online auction.
The New York Times has more on what agents with the Amtrak Office of Inspector General detailed in court documents: They say Rodriguez sometimes reached out to a potential buyers on the very day he got the equipment from Amtrak. Further, they say some of the chain saws they recovered had the same serial numbers as ones in Amtrak's inventory.
Rodriguez was arrested on March 8, 2021, and was at the time charged with theft from an agency receiving federal funds and theft of government property. As a result of an agreement made around Monday's guilty plea, those other charges won't be pursued. Rodriguez faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He'll be sentenced in April.
