Do Democrats lack courage? Are they just too nice?

2008: a black president is elected. Repubs float the conspiracy theory that he wasn’t born in the US. For the next 8 years. With no evidence. The foremost spokesman for the theory is declared president in 2016.

2016 and following: 1) the new president’s son admits Russian money is a big part of the Trump empire. Trump refuses to release his tax returns and publically kowtow’s to Putin. What Democrat publically and repeated accuses Trump of being in Putin’s pocket and a traitor? 2) In covert circles, the idea of a “honey pot” (a beautiful woman sent to seduce and ultimately compromise a prominent public figure) is well-known. Trump’s wife was born in a then Communist country, and is the daughter of a Communist official of that country. What Democrat publically and repeated suggests she may have been instrumental in getting dirt on Trump, passing it on to Russia for blackmail purposes? 3) Trump admits to crotch-grabbing. Such actions, especially by a man over 6 ft tall, especially towards one of the chambermaids in his hotels, is an obvious prelude to rape. In fact, multiple women have accused Trump of rape. What Democrat publically and repeated accuses Trump of being a serial rapist?

I could go on.

And if somehow there’s a Democrat I missed who fits the above description, please let me know.

P.S. If this gets me banned from DU, so be it.

The PROPER response to Trump's racist attacks may be to . . .

. . . put the focus back on the self-admitted crotch-grabbing scumbag accused of rape by multiple women, one of whom was 13 at the time. Rather than people going back to the "shithole" countries they came from, maybe someone could suggest Trump move to the country that got him elected, whose leader he never fails to praise.

Just as thought.

An observation about US healthcare

Comment found on YouTube

Im totally baffled by the selfish US thinking that says your health depends on your wealth, in Europe where Democratic socialism is the norm, it would never occur to us to not support our fellow citizens when it comes to health, we take it as a moral right. Money should not be the main consideration when it comes to saving life. I find it quite ironic that in the US where pro life sentiment for the unborn is so active but they do not extent that to the living, what kind of moral gymnastics is that ??? .... Only in America

Democrats not aggressive enough?

It seems to me too often Democrats allow Republicans to set the topic and frame the question. Case in point: “the Wall”. Is that really the most important issue facing us, more important than, say, the very really possibility that the POTUS has been compromised by a foreign enemy nation? I’d love to see the Democrats focusing on that issue, demanding, for example, Trump’s tax returns (remember them?) so the returns can be examined for foreign money which might correlate with foreign influence. A former head of the CIA has called Trump “a clear and present danger to the security of the United States”. Isn’t this a more pressing issue than some stupid wall? I'd love to see Pelosi add that Trump has been called a "clear and present danger" and mention the possibility of collusion ever time he brings up his stupid wall.

And if we must allow Republicans to set the topic shouldn't we always be calling it “the Mexican WalL”, always reminding people that for a few years Trump vowed to get Mexico to pay for it? Shouldn't we be rubbing his nose in the fact that he's failed and is now asking us to pay for something he said time and time again we wouldn’t have to pay for?

Just some thoughts.

Fox News Host Turns Populist??!!

At https://www.vox.com/2019/1/10/18171912/tucker-carlson-fox-news-populism-conservatism-trump-gop

Last Wednesday, the conservative talk show host Tucker Carlson started a fire on the right after airing a prolonged monologue on his show that was, in essence, an indictment of American capitalism.

America’s “ruling class,” Carlson says, are the “mercenaries” behind the failures of the middle class — including sinking marriage rates — and “the ugliest parts of our financial system.” He went on: “Any economic system that weakens and destroys families is not worth having. A system like that is the enemy of a healthy society.”

He concluded with a demand for “a fair country. A decent country. A cohesive country. A country whose leaders don’t accelerate the forces of change purely for their own profit and amusement.”

The monologue was stunning in itself, an incredible moment in which a Fox News host stated that for generations, “Republicans have considered it their duty to make the world safe for banking, while simultaneously prosecuting ever more foreign wars.”

Need help with a letter

I’m working on a letter to my Republican senator. I don’t think it’s very good so far. I need some input: some more or better citations, advice as to tone, etc.. Is it too strident? Input appreciated.

Dear Senator ***,

As you know:
• John Brennan, former director of the CIA, and David Laufman, former Department of Justice counterintelligence head, agree that President Trump is a "clear and present danger" to the national security of the United States
• The FBI is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian authorities.
• “[T] here should no longer be any doubt that Russia has leverage over [President Trump]”.—Michelle Goldberg, New York Times, Nov 29, 2018
• “Now we know Trump, like Flynn, was compromised by the Russians.”— Adam Schiff, USA Today, Dec 4, 2018

At present the government of the United States is shutdown. In other words, it is partially crippled. I’m sure you are aware of the hardship the shutdown is causing across the country.

Worse, the government of the United States has been shutdown by a likely tool of a foreign enemy nation.

The shutdown can only continue with the support of senators like yourself. The House would certainly overrule a Presidential veto and reopen government. Only Republican senators stand in the way of reopening the government of the United States.

Sir, does your conscience allow you to continue supporting an action which quite possibly is designed to injure or even destroy your country? Can you afford to risk unwittingly supporting Russia’s agenda? Does the hardship of government employees and, indeed, the country at large fall on a deaf ear? How will history judge you if/when irrefutable proof of President Trump’s treason is established? How will it look on your continued support of his shutdown, on your continued refusal to allow the government of the United States to function as the founders intended?

I implore you as a fellow American and patriot to immediately reopen the government of the United States.

Sincerely,

January 21, 2019

So what (if anything) is happening with the tax returns?

If I recall correctly, before the Democrats won the House it was said if they did win they'd be able to get Trump's tax returns.

Anyone know if this is true?
If so, anyone know if anything is currently in the works to get the returns?

Former CIA director: Trump a "CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER" to the U.S.

"Former CIA director John Brennan concurs with former senior Justice Department official David Laufman’s conclusion that the president is a clear and present danger to the national security of this country."

Anyone who has seen the movie of the same name knows this isn't good news for Trump.

We live in crazy times.

Trump's Mexican Wall: an idea only a moron could love

Let’s put aside paying for the wall. Let’s suppose funds are available.
Let’s put aside if the wall is really needed. Let’s suppose it is.

Even granting all that, Trump’s Mexican Wall is an idea only a moron could love.

Sure, 3,000 years ago maybe a wall (e.g., the Great Wall of China) made sense. But today—with drones, laser so sensitive they can detect a fly scratching its hind legs together, night vision goggles and cameras, satellite reconnaissance, along with computers equipped with artificial intelligence to control it all—a wall makes about as much sense as using typewriters instead of PCs, or horse-drawn wagons instead of cars and trucks.

Remember the 1980’s when the Reagan administration proposed the Strategic Defense Initiative (also known as SDI or the Silly Defense Idea)? That was to be space-based sensors that could detect the launch of nuclear missiles along with weapons under computer control that could react instantly to shoot down targets moving at supersonic speeds.

But today to detect and stop a man and/or woman, travelling on foot, maybe with kids, the most intelligent, cost-effective solution is a pile of concrete??

Somehow, I doubt it.
