In reply to the discussion: Check in if you will attend a MARCH FOR OUR LIVES event and WHERE: (DU: 39 states + DC represented)* [View all]Staph
(6,269 posts)However, at the same time as the march, I'm attending a meeting on the Commission on the Way Forward, the United Methodist commission designed to revise the Book of Discipline in the area of human sexuality. My bishop is a moderator for the Commission meetings, and will be updating dozens of local churches Saturday on the final report to be presented to the Council of Bishops in April.
As I understand, most of the U.S. bishops and members are in favor allowing pastors to choose to perform same-sex marriages and allowing LGBTQ church members to become clergy, assuming that they are celibate or in a committed relationship (the same requirement exists for straight clergy). The sticking point seems to be the Church as it exists in more conservative parts of the world (especially outside the U.S.). I am quite curious to see how they undo this Gordian knot!
The rest of y'all -- go do the good work at the March!
