As much as I respect Joy Reid, I don't think she and the other hosts get to choose their own topics all the time. I think the NBC bosses are making them take the "both sides" stance just so they can keep the Repukes happy.

It was probably distasteful for Joy to do this show, but she had to or you know, lose her job. Maybe it's not really that like that, but I'm guessing that she's hoping to get a regular weekday gig when something opens up. (For example Chris Matthews is close to retiring in a year or two.) Joy is hard-working and effective whenever she's the fill-in host on Rachel's or Lawrence's show. So that tells me that maybe she would eventually be considered for one of the top spots herself.

Another one is Chuck Todd, whose main gig is Meet the Press on Sunday mornings, still a top-rated show. Todd doesn't have many fans here on DU I know, but he has to play "both sides" in order to book the Repukes on his show. If he couldn't do that, then he'd be fired in a heartbeat I'm sure.

All I can say is, grain of salt. We know the truth about the Repukes, and we know the MSNBC hosts have to play the game sometimes. The last thing we want is for MSNBC to turn into another Faux News. Then I would boycott them for sure.
