(2,809 posts)No surprise, I suppose, in the "alternative facts" era.
Circa 1981 or so, a television I'd inherited from my late grandmother did not survive the last object I threw at it when Ray Gun blathered more trickle down nonsense. I'd always found televisionus programming a nauseating total waste of time, at the time I preferred to spend time in my garden or soft music with a book and my pets in the evening.
About 20 years thereafter, having made some fragile reconciliation with my parental units to where they dared visit my gay household for thanksgiving, they were terribly dismayed that I subscribed to no television services. At the time Dish network had a pre-paid plan, so the following year I subscribed to a month of their swill and bought an actual television to display it upon.
The following year Dish no longer offered the pre-paid plan, and I had to "subscribe" to appease my aging parents.
With exception of specialty channels, the selections still required sifting through hours and copious selections of garbage for tiny bits of informational programming. After my parents demise, the televisionus rays no longer invade my home.
