In fairness to Wallace, he did an admirable job in his earlier interview and that was the aspect of the town hall that Guthrie handled so very well. She didn't have to try to deal with both a combative, lying Trump who was ALSO trying to cut off an opponent's opportunity to speak at all.
Frankly, though I totally agree with you that women are frequently underestimated, I think in Guthrie's case it was more from the standpoint of her work on "TODAY," which only occasionally features hard-hitting interviews and thus more often highlights the usual "fluff" that doesn't exactly let her or her colleagues showcase their true abilities.
At any rate, she did a very good job (I saw most of it via clips after the fact). I wish she'd been the one moderating the first debate and also the VP debate.
