but my own best guess is that some top Republicans would come escort him out to the helicopter. With security guards and unspecified federal agents close by. As ex-president he'll have his own, probably newly assigned Secret Service detail.

I'm remembering the scenes on West Wing's last episode, cutting from the president and first lady looking around and leaving for the last time to the teams of WH domestic staff marching in to remove their pictures from the walls, etc., to the dais and crowds at the inauguration. It'll all happen except the exs's gracious departure, and Trump and Biden will not be riding together to the inauguration, Trump's decision.
