These Canadian truck protests are giving off a distinct French "Yellow Vests" vibe to me. [View all]

I can't put my finger on it, but it just seems a little too fake-populist to me.

The French "Yellow Vest" protests were a series of protests in 2018. Protesters wore yellow construction worker style vests for greater visibility. There was not a unified theme to the protests, but a majority seemed to be protesting rising costs of living in the country under President Macron. There were also elements of anti-globalism and anti-immigration that emerged from the "Yellow Vest" protests.

It later came to light that the Yellow Vest protests were being heavily amplified by outside groups, including Russian propagandists who saw it as an opportunity to weaken the Macron government.

Just like the Yellow Vests, there just seems to be something off about these Truck protests. I think there is likely some genuine sentiment behind them, but I can't help to feel there's also an infusion of outside influence who want to weaken the Trudeau government.
