Decades ago, I sent a picture to the Denver Post. They had me sign a release before they would even use it.
I also worked for a fair sized Corporation decades ago. A young MBA took a picture he saw, and used it in an advertisement for our corporation...........
A week later, after the ad ran in the paper, our CEO received a bill for a thousand dollars for the "one time use of the photograph," from the photographer. The CEO told accounting to issue a check immediately, and he also wrote a hand written letter to the photographer apologizing for using his photo. He told me that he was glad the guy didn't bill us ten grand, because he would be obligated to pay it. The CEO told me that if it went to court it would be a slam dunk legally for the Photographer........
Like I said, I am not an attorney, and only have these similar experiences.......
