It's well past time to realize that if you don't want Republicans doing deplorable shit, do not let them win office. They do not need an excuse and do not need to cite "well, the Democrats did this once..." to explain away their deplorable shit. They lead a brainwashed cult and can say and do whatever with no repercussions from their cultists.

I would also point out that Republicans would need Democrats to pass any of what you fear and Democrats are not inclined to do so, absent a situation like this where the other option is a historic default and resulting devastation of our and the world's economy. Furthermore, if Democrats win back the House and retain the presidency and Senate in 2024, they can do away with the debt ceiling charade entirely (since if we win the Senate, odds are we will have done so without Manchin and Sinema, two that have prevented us from doing this already).
