8. Prison isn't the right option for the mother

Just make sure she's not able to ever have children again. She's no threat to society, so why imprison her? What is punishing her helpful to the rest of society? Is it going to deter other prospective mothers from doing what she did?

Vengeance based on emotions is the worst thing enlightened (I hope!) people can do. Killing all the upper echelon people within the Republican party, yeah, that makes sense, because they are an existential threat to society and the planet. This woman? If she were to become a mother again, for the rest of her life, she might be able to birth 10, 12 children. And if she were to be so negligent as to cause all 12 to die, so what? That's not a threat to any of us.

And lastly, it's none of my business, but in some circumstances (probably not in this case), the mother has to make that rather terrible choice on having to commit infanticide. Other animals do it on a regular basis due to whatever circumstances are occurring. Zebra mothers are known to kick their newborns to death because the bleating of the newborn will signal to predators the whereabouts of the herd. Bears, birds, baboons are also known to commit infanticide. It's nature's way of enabling the fittest to survive. I doubt that is the case here, but I'm not in this mother's head rationalizing on what transpired.
