In reply to the discussion: Michael Moore really really really needs to shut up. [View all]DFW
(55,842 posts)After the resignations in disgrace of (first) Nixons VP Spiro Agnew in 1973, and then again in 1974 when Nixon himself also had to resign in disgrace.
Nixon picked Gerry Ford, a popular, personable Congressman from Michigan. Ford was well-liked by members of both parties, and acceptable to Democrats. Then, when it was Fords turn, he picked Nelson Rockefeller, the popular New York governor, who was richer than anyone who could possibly try to bribe him, and also a hell of a personable guy as well. Like Ford, he knew how to build bridges, not burn them.
Todays Republicans dont build bridges. They dont even burn them. They use strategically placed bombs that not only destroy the bridges, but the foundations they were built on, and for good measure, they leave toxic waste on the site so that any workers sent to rebuild them die of poisoning first.
Mike Johnson would not only deny Kamala Harris a Vice-President of her choosing. He would deny her any Vice-President at all, so as to make it impossible for her to be formally elected next January.
That Johnson would try to get away with this obvious ploy should come as no surprise to anyone. That Michael Moore should join him is just a sad indication of how out of touch with reality Moore is. I dont think its because he needs money and has let himself be bought by the Republicans. I think he has just grown too lazy to consider the consequences of what he is advocating. But whatever his reason for this, what he is advocating coincides with the disastrous Republican goal of throwing the election to the House delegations and making Trump president. For that simple reason, he deserves to be ignored as slightly irritating background noise. He has lost his right to be welcome on Colbert or Jimmy Kimmel. Let him go do Fox and Frauds instead.
