(1,385 posts)I'm glad Big Ed is returning. I've been a fan since the
Air America days. I love it when he gets himself all
jacked up about labor unions and workers' rights. He is
a rare champion of the middle class and doesn't back
down to bullies or the corporatist demagogues.
Sadly, it can be excruciating to watch him or Rev Al as they
stumble through and butcher the script with their stilted
deliveries. Al can seem lost sometimes. Ed is at his very best
when he goes off-script and gets pissed off (I'd love to
see him punch somebody in the face!) I believe that Melissa
Harris-Perry could attract more viewers than Al or Chris Hayes.
I could never understand why, from a business perspective,
MSNBC would repeat Hairball at 7 pm, only to interrupt the flow
of their programming (lots of clickers heard clicking at 7 pm)
Rachel is their star -- amazing amount of info and insight every day.
You can tell she has a PhD by the way she presents her theses.
The pedantic Chris Hayes bores the hell out of me. Lawrence O's
show is "OK". He usually has great topics, but he tends to overdo
the maudlin routine.
And I also feel repulsed by the "Lock Up" shows. When did
televising the misery of prisoners become "entertainment"? What
is so fascinating? Why not televise burn victims in hospitals or
the people being tortured in Gitmo? Sadism and voyeurism all
rolled into one horrible program.
My ideal MSNBC line-up would be:
5 pm: Chris Hayes
6 pm: Big Ed
7 pm: Hairball
8 pm: RMS
9 pm: Melissa Harris (? with Karen Finney)
10 pm: Lawrence O.
11 pm: Sean Hannity (JUST KIDDING!) recycle -- including Fridays.
