(67,190 posts)WOW! Thank you all! My dad would be so happy to see all of your warm responses and the beautiful things being said about him. It was very difficult to read some of these posts, but I pushed through them all and I'm glad my dad made an impact on so many of your lives and I know you all did the same for him.
To answer some questions...
hfojvt - My dad was only 58.
DemoTex and Divernan- He was a licensed amateur radio operator and a MARS member but he did not serve in the military. My mom has chosen not to have a public service for my dad because that was my dad's wishes and he is being cremated. We will probably have a small, private family service for him in a few weeks.
alsame and mahatmakanejeeves - My dad did enjoy fishing with his grandson (my son) and my son enjoyed fishing with his papaw as well. My son loved trains when he was younger so he and my dad bonded over trains and fishing.
SoCalDem - Thank you for sharing the article.
ProfessorGAC - I do remember you and I'm glad you and my dad were able to meet in person.
