36. Outside of shared walls, I dont understand why they exist

If you share walls, I can see a limited HOA, for exterior maintenance. It doesn't matter how well you keep up your home if the guy on the other side of the wall doesnt keep his roof up, the leak ends up ruining your kitchen.

But for freestanding buildings, I really do not understand HOAs. It makes no sense.
