In reply to the discussion: Bush NEVER ONCE did this. [View all]CaptainTruth
(7,266 posts)Seemed like it was always in the middle of the night, Bush's attempt to hide the results of his evil deeds in the darkness. There was one picture that got out, rows of coffins, covered in flags, in the belly of a massive airplane. Every one a life cut short, a lifetime of joy & love & infinite experiences ... taken ... all for a lie. I hung that picture on my wall so I could see it every day. Every American should have had that picture on their wall. That was the price we were paying ... & Bush wanted to keep it hidden.
I wanted to know more about that price, to not just see it in pictures, but to feel it, real, in front of me. So when a local serviceman was killed in Iraq, I went to his funeral. I didn't know him or anyone else there, but I knew what he represented. I saw his flag-covered coffin. His wife will always have a neatly-folded flag, but she will never again have him ... the love of her life. I saw the sadness & loss ... & I felt it. I felt it far more than Bush ever did.
Every American should attend a military funeral. It is a very humbling experience ... & it can make you think differently about the true cost of war.
