(3,163 posts)A fallen soldier is coming home carried by and being met by his brothers in arms who are wearing fatigue uniforms. To me that is a gesture of disrespect, although it seems the modern military does not regard "undress" uniforms the same way that we did when I served.
We were not allowed off base in anything other than "Class A" dress uniform, squared away and looking professional. We were proud to serve and wore the uniform with respect. We would never slouch around in public spaces in dungarees, or in dress uniform hatless. Today one almost never sees a service person wearing anything other than fatigue uniform, and half the time they do not bother with a hat. I don't know how that affects most people, but it certainly reduces my respect for them. They look like bums who have no respect for their service.
