brick and mortar stores. If it doesn't fit, you try a different size. You don't just buy it. Women's clothing sizes are all over the map, and vary widely between manufacturers. Clothing makers in Asia who are targeting the Asian market size their clothing for that market. When you order online from a company in another country, you have no idea at all how their sizing compares to US sizing, and you can't try the thing on.

So, she saved a bunch of money, but really didn't since the coat is useless to her. She'd be better off shopping in consignment shops or deep discount clothing shops if she wants low prices on cheap cloting. There she can try the stuff on to see if it suits her.

I think the writer is blaming the wrong people in her article.
