(22,725 posts)being a government worker and taking it easy while he worked. The postmaster is friendly to everyone and well-liked.
She joshed him back about being a business owner and then looked at me and said, "Well, you know last year when they shut down the government, they got paid" and I said,"and the workers didn't."
Then I said, "Boehner is retiring." The guy said, "He is the worst thing that ever happened to the Republican Party." I was willing to let that pass
The postmaster said she hoped things would change and I agreed, saying, "I hope there are big changes soon."
I think the postmistress said something about President Obama, and the guy said, "That guy ruined the country." I was like what????
So I said, "He turned this country around!"
And he said, "He ruined healthcare. My rates went up and I'm mandated to carry it."
(No one should bring up healthcare to me or the economy, 2 real sore spots).
I said, "Read the last few pages of the ACA. The fine isn't going to be enforced. Under Bush, ORMET was allowed to declare bankruptcy, open the contract and take my husband's retirement benefits away. Under Bush, we went from paying zero a month for health benefits to paying over $500.00. Under Bush, I lost a 3rd of my IRA. Since Obama's been in office, I got back the loss, plus $5,000.00 more."
He said something about the economy, that Obama can't control it. Also about the housing bubble, which I pointed out deregulation under Bush caused. Then I said, "Do you watch FOX news?"
He said, "I get my news from everywhere! I'm very well-informed!"
I said, "I'm not hearing it." (yes, here is the sarcasm)
I got a little distracted here, so I lost a little of the comments. I think someone else came in the lobby.
He said, "You just vote for what's good for you."
I said, "Everybody does. You vote with your pocketbook." He tried to disagree and I said, "That's human." I thumped my side and said, "Your vote is right there. It's how it is. And I donate to things I support. If I am doing good, I want to pass it along. And it isn't trickle down economics. It's from the heart."
And I paid the postmaster and left.
