(15,882 posts)school get into those discussions with adults who come to talk to them - you see it here and there.
This one was a financial guru, and these kids were pumping him for stock tips. They still have a theater department in their school. <G> Liberal arts figure heavily in the curriculum, but mostly before the U.S. was founded. They have a soccer field.
I contrast that with the schools here, (not the private ones), where the football field is nicely mown, and the baseball diamond has an outfield with sprinkler system. They have a fake cash register setup, so the kids can learn to hand change back correctly, and can be trained as baristas for the new low-wage economy. They try to teach computer stuff, but most anyone with an aptitude leaves the instruction hopelessly behind, and the rest are using time they could better invest in something else, 'cause they obviously don't want to be there.
They don't get visitors that tell them about finance. They have play days, with big loudspeakers and (I swear) oldies and some other music, while they walk around the ball field.
I wonder how many will be paying student loans out of their social security, or if that system will have collapsed by then.
Sheriff's stations in subschools. Some of the schools got rid of music. I guess they need something to fill that empty room with.
