A South Orange-Maplewood School District teacher accused of pulling a hijab off the head of a 7-year-old Muslim student in school last week has denied the incident occurred, according to a report.
Tamar Herman, a teacher at Seth Boyden Elementary School, said in a statement from her attorney that the second grade student wasnt wearing a hijab and was instead wearing a hoodie, NBC reported.
In accordance with school policy, Ms. Herman directed a student in her class to pull down the hood on a hooded sweatshirt because it was blocking her eyes - and immediately rescinded that request when she realized that the student was wearing the hood in place of, rather than on top of, her usual hijab, Hermans attorney Samatha Harris told NBC.

The Jewish teacher said the student was wearing a hoodie (against school dress code), not a hijab (permitted by law), while the mother said it was a hijab, not a hoodie.
Initial social media headlines stated as fact that a hijab was removed.
The cameras will have the last word.
