Phil was and still is free to express his opinion. And people can refuse to listen or be subjected to it. That isn't a freedom of speech issue, unless I missed the government action here that restricted his speech.
I don't even remotely agree with Phil on this. But the idea that A&E cannot make him leave the show is pretty weird. Phil 100% gets to have his opinion. Phil 100% cannot force anyone else to agree with his opinion...and those who strongly disagree have the freedom to choose not to associate with him or to listen to him. Just because he can't be on a reality tv show certainly doesn't mean he cannot express his opinion.
I never understand where this weird idea comes from, ie that one person can force another to listen to their opinions. A&E made a business decision to say no to this, and it makes no difference whether Phil, me, you or anyone likes it. Or do people really think that A&E is not similarly entitled to their opinion? Or that they cannot act in accordance with their opinion? If so, then we'd need to not only tell Phil to shut up but to put down his bible and to quit acting in accordance with his opinion. Thankfully for everyone, it doesn't work this way.
Actions might have consequences, but that doesn't even remotely mean one cannot speak their mind.
