Larry Ellison bought a Hawaiian island for $300 million.

Press reports say that Ellison is worth $46 billion.

So that purchase took far less than one half of 1% of Ellison's worth.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that the average middle class American has a net worth of $100,000 (cars, equity in home, some money in the bank, etc.). One half of 1% of that comes to $500.

So Larry Ellison's island is more or less equivalent to the average middle class American's visit to Best Buy during a TV sale.
