Donald Trump. Actually, Newt is the father of Donald' candidacy, as a result of forcing out Minority House Leader Bod Michel and taking his place. He prevented the inclusion of automatic debt ceiling rise in the budget bills, which gave the Repugs the ability to fight to close the government every year. His nasty partisanship led to the continual increase in tension with the DEMs. Thanks, Newt -- you may have likely killed the GOP as you knew it.
