55. It's a great car. If there is any issue with driving it, it is that the more modern cars have disc

brakes and are lighter.

The Thunderbird was built at a time when the roads were not as crowded and drivers left more space between the cars.

Now, when a driver of a modern car pulls in front of a 57 Thunderbird and steps on the brakes in what can be considered a normal manner, the T-Bird driver can be still moving forward while trying to get the car to slow down or stop with the drum brakes.

In addition to having drum brakes, the Thunderbird is also a heavy car and can weigh twice as much or almost twice as much as some modern cars. It has both a heavy box frame and a heavy X frame. In an accident, it will crush any modern car put in front of it while protecting the driver and passenger in the Thunderbird.

If your mother ever gives the car to you, my recommendation would be to swap out the drum brakes and have disc brakes installed. And, when you get in to drive it, watch out for the left knee.

I like this one Xipe Totec Aug 2012 #1
