but in reality I don't. Because I am not nor have I ever been close to homeless. Oh, I've been hungry, and the only reason I got some desperately needed dental care when I was in high school was through a local Catholic Charity, to which I've always been grateful.

I wish I could offer something more substantial. But I can't. All I can say is please, please make use of whatever support there is in your community.

I do volunteer work at a local homeless shelter. I do it with a local faith group (it's officially the Interfaith Community Shelter) and I work in the kitchen, preparing and serving meals to our guests. One thing I've observed in the years I've been doing this is how very many of the homeless have mental health issues.

Which is why I'll repeat: please make use of whatever support systems there are for you in your community.
