the 229 is slightly smaller and more concealable than a 226. I'd recommend getting in .40 S&W...as you can purchase conversion barrels in both .357 Sig and 9mm that allow you to shoot all three calibers (the 9mm are aftermarket mfgs who bore a .40/.357 blank to 9mm) using the same platform (same frame, magazines, and recoil spring). Very cool.

If you're looking at something in 9mm, don't overlook the German Polizei trade-in P6s (a P225)... they're affordable (usually just under 5 bills), and they're nuts-on accurate. Most have a bit of wear, but that just gives 'em character.

Be careful though, they're as addictive as eating pistachios...and the Signess can be contagious.
