(17,997 posts)It's been obvious, since the NRN in Arizona, from whence this tactic against Senator Sanders came.
I have always applauded Black Lives Matter, and I always will. I have always stated my full agreement that both Senator Sanders and Governor O'Malley really screwed up at the NRN in Arizona. However, the fact that NRN is funded and run by third way supporters has never been a question or in dispute. Anyone that ignores that fact is just making excuses for unfounded attacks that continue through today.
The constant belittling of Sanders supporters is a tactic used because attacking Sanders himself would backfire. It's a tactic that hasn't worked. So now they're going after the only candidate that is truly for the disenfranchised, the marginalized, the minorities, the unions and the 99%. While I have seen some less than bright, hell, some stupid responses from Sanders supporters regarding why people of color should vote for him, I have seen many, many more comments and replies from supporters of third way candidates about both Sanders and his supporters. All the while, third way candidate supporters completely ignoring facts that their candidate, just 7 short years ago, said some incredibly racist things. Ignoring completely that just last month, Hillary Clinton responded to a small Black Lives Matter contingent with, well, I'll just say a very dismissive attitude.
What has struck me as hypocritical, that no one seems to mention, is that many of the same people that are accusing Sanders and his supporters of being racist, and even more so, absolutely negating decades of Sanders work for equality, by saying things like, "so what if he marched with Dr. King; so what if he organized and was arrested for his work for integration, it is and was what he should have done and there was no risk for him" (as if breaking the law because he stood up for what he knows was right, wasn't a risk and, being arrested for it, means nothing) are the same people who dissed and bitched about Patricia Arquette's call for people of color and the LGBT community to stand with women. How is it a duty to stand up for what is right for one marginalized group but not for another?
By the way, I agree that it was what he should have done, it is what every single person should do and for all marginalized people. But negating people standing up for what is right is despicable. People have died doing something they may have been morally required to do but not legally. It's shameful and just so very sad to hear people dismissing things like that. You don't want to applaud it, fine, don't. But to say it means nothing is reprehensible.
We'll see more and more of this bullshit as more and more people support Senator Sanders, the only candidate that is truly for the disenfranchised, the marginalized, the minorities, the unions and the 99%. But it won't work. Senator Sanders is the only choice if we want to end the oligarchy, police state, we now live in.
