Whether to have a gun in the home is a risk/reward assessment that each adult in the household has to make. Someone pointed out here on DU that almost half the gun deaths for the last five years were suicides, so having a gun in those cases led to tragedy. But if a family lives in a rural or thinly policed area and someone is breaking into their home, not having a gun could lead to a lot of bad outcomes. Like I said, it boils down to risk versus reward.

I have to admit that if I were married and had kids, I would most likely own a gun unless my wife was dead set against that. But I would also take gun safety training and frequent target practice from a person that is not an NRA adherent, it would be ok if the person disagreed with me on the NRA, as long as he or she respect my right to disagree.

primary today, I would vote for:
