Report: Germany to boost tsunami aid to €500 million

According to a report by the "Leipziger Volkszeitung", the German Federal Government is planning a massive boost of up to half a billion Euros to its aid for the flood victims in south-east Asia. If so, Germany would be the biggest donor, ahead of Japan and the USA.

Berlin: The Federal Government is planning to increase the pledged relief fund of €20 million dramatically. Up to €500 million are to be given for the reconstruction of the destroyed infrastructure, reports the "Leipziger Volkszeitung". This plan is going to be decided upon in the next cabinet meeting, Wednesday. A governmental speaker has denied requests to comment upon the report, and referred to the meeting on Wednesday.
