236. reasons why this is not a stupid topic
1. stupid is a subjective term
2. the GOP says it's stupid
3. it speaks to the American standards of fair play and openness in government
4. this topic is all over the international press
5. it is fodder for those who believe our nation is asleep
6. smart patriots are able to multi-task, attending to many facets of a political campaign
7. other issues, for example, the Sinclair decision, are enjoying broad coverage in the American media
8. to state that this issue is too stupid to consider is, at its heart, a class issue, when the implications of the "bulge" would be stunning and shocking to all Americans, whether it speaks to the president's health and/or integrity
9. it has garnered over 230 responses in this forum, many of them compelling, some silly, but all with passion
10. the Democratic party has not addressed this issue, as of now
11. the GOP has chosen to redirect any serious inquiries with ancient jokes about elvis
12. there is no clear explanation of the "bulge" forthcoming from any quarters, save a tailor
13. were it scot peterson or martha stewart wired under questioning, it would be all over the news, not here on DU
14. i expect my President to be a man or a woman of at least elementary moral character, taking pride in his or her own thoughts, speech, and record
15. keeping in mind the apparently higher educational standards implicit in the No Child Left Behind initiative, a high school debating student would fail if and when he or she were caught cheating, and rightly so
16. if we accept that our President is to be a moral leader, in what context is evasion of a simple question:
"what is that on your back?"
considered morally acceptable
17. unless, i suppose, the device is medical or security-related; then, why is the President's health and safety being compromised for the sake of a debate?
