Dalia Lama in Tucson - Some Christians protest
Advertisements [?]
Yea I was floored when I read this. I didn't get to see the man but I wish I had, but I found out too late about it.

I cannot believe some people actually had the audacity to protest his visit. If I had been there I would've said "You know you're here accusing this man of not knowing Jesus YOU do not know nor follow the teachings of Jesus of Nazereth, if you did instead of driving up here in your SUV's to spread hateful values, you'd have loaded your vehicles up with food to feed all the homeless people who live in the downtown area, why aren't you out doing that if you're so Christian? maybe if you actually listened to the things this man says about love and compassion, you'd see he is far closer to Jesus than any of you people are"

Not very Buddhist of me to say that, but still sometimes my demons just get the better of me.

The Dalai Lama is not a stodgy man, and neither are his admirers, judging from the crowd that greeted the famed spiritual leader in Downtown Tucson on Monday.

Some wore glitter, feathers or flowing robes. Others lighted incense and struck yoga poses on the lawn of the Tucson Convention Center.

About 7,500 fans, from Tucson and elsewhere, converged on the city center to see the 70-year-old Buddhist monk in his only appearance before the general public during his four-day stay.

"This calls for a celebration," said Marta Macbeth, 50, of Santa Fe, N.M., who twined lime-green parrot feathers into her waist-long silver hair for the event. "I just get really happy when His Holiness is around."

Erin Midkiff, 17, a senior at Tucson High Magnet School, donned a black T-shirt featuring stars, planets and gold glitter.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Midkiff, one of hundreds of students who got free tickets. "I've always been really interested in Buddhism, and it's pretty amazing to see the top leader."
