We rented The Tingler, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Gaslight and The Night of the Hunter.

We watched The Tingler today--Vincent Price. Creepy and corny at the same time, just the way I like it. Theory: when you get scared this malevolent creature called a Tingler attaches itself to your spine and the only way to release it is to SCREAM!!!! Best plot twist is how they tested the theory on a deaf-mute woman who obviously COULDN'T scream. She died of it....or did she?

This movie had an unusual color sequence right in the middle AND when it was shown in the movie theaters, they actually rigged up certain chairs to give the person a little electric shock. Can you imagine movie theaters doing that today? Can you say lawsuit?

The Night of the Hunter is Robert Mitchum....I happened to find it at Hollywood Video and apparently it is quite good: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048424/

We're watching that one next, and after reading that IMDb entry, I can't wait.

Gaslight was recommended here last night (I couldn't find the others) and has a 17 year old Angela Lansbury's screen debut!

The Man Who Knew Too Much is James Stewart and Doris Day in a Hitchcock--something I've been meaning to see forever.

Thanks again for the great recommendations! In the same scary vein, I was going to watch the extras on my F 9/11 DVD, but just can't bring myself to. I want scary ESCAPISM right now, and that stuff is just too depressingly real.

Kerry on!

On edit, I wanted to add that The Tingler has what is apparently the first on-film acid trip. Funny stuff. "The walls!!! THE WALLS!!!!"
