I grew up in a rural area. Town folk would often dump their unwanted doge there. The dogs would pack up and frighten, maim and sometimes injure or kill the ranchers cattle. The ranchers would often shoot and kill the dogs. More than one of them faced criminal charges or civil lawsuit because they killed somebody's high dollar hunting dog or pet.

The dog of one of my best friends from childhood was shot in the head. The dog was in the pasture in back of their house which was owned by her parents when he was shot. Miraculously the dog survived without any serious impairment.

I hope ypour Freckles has the same miraculous recovery. I can't describe how angry I would be had this happened to one of my own dogs.
