This is a pretty classy place... with an Internet node to use before the surgeon calls you into his white dungeon for nefarious purposes. Who would have thought it?

My #2 molar is coming out today after failed root canal therapy dating back to September 2007. The official diagnosis is "cracked tooth syndrome" - which dentists tell me is one of the most difficult problems to treat.

Cracks in tooth enamel do not show up on X-ray; all they have to go on is the patient's symptoms. I have had off and on pain for six months and the DUer who suggested I should "Just pull it!" when we discussed it on one of my first posts -- he/she gets the gold star. I would have saved myself much time and money.

So, all you young 'uns who think you can endlessly crunch down on popcorn kernels, ice, hard candy, or anything else hard (!) -- watch out.

I hope none of this ever happens to you. My simple advice as I approach my 69th birthday is --

Live each day as if it were your last, and, someday, you'll be right!
