My dog HATED having his claws clipped and he frequently yapped even though I never cut into his quick. It took the two of us to hold our 9 pound dog down to clip his claws. Now, with the grinder, it has gotten way better. I feel better in control because I am not afraid anymore that I might cut his quick.

The important thing is not to put too much pressure on the nail and not to work on one nail for too long (not longer than 3 seconds). The heat from the friction might cause pain.
