He resembles every other fool in power.

"Violence... is still terrible". Sure, but go deeper. If the violence is terrible, the cure is to add more troops? Okay, the specific situation may call for more troops to suppress acts of violence--though, really, all it will do is make the environment for the factionalists even more "target rich". Yet, on some level, the idea that adding troops to a violent situation is contradictory. It can't help but make matters worse--unless they send in a million troops and simultaneously, from all directions, from the outside-in, go from house to house, car to car, person to person and disarm the entire place (finding every weapon, explosive, cache of ammunition, etc), they'll never make the place less violent. Well, that is, short of convincing the entire population of IRAQ to chose to be peaceful and pursue making their lives better. Alas, that's not likely--there's too much hatred between the many groups; and they really do want a genocide-like ("religious-secticide") solution to their problems.
