5. You're definitely not alone, I hate them too.
Maybe we should go by the theory of "s/he who speaks the least has the most important things to say" and vote for the person in the headlines the least. Because, honestly, what difference does it make in terms of qualifications or positions/platforms if John Edwards criticized (maybe) John Kerry or if a woman (Clinton) or an African-American (Obama) could be the first of something to be president? Not much, if you ask me. What is important are the positions on the war that Kucinich takes or the positions on poverty that Edwards takes. And those are the things that don't make the news, especially with two years of campaigning ahead. So I'm going to go with the theory that the person I hear about the least, is the best.

But it would be nice if there was a pre-deadline of sorts that barred anyone from announcing before a set date, say six months before the first primary. Or even set a date and a place and anyone who wants to run has to show up there and announce all at the same time in person. And I didn't know that about the Catholic Church, but I agree, it is the best idea.
