I wish they did, but they didn't.

He was elected to be the Senator from Nevada.

His peers chose him as leader. Not you. Not me. So far as I know, he took no particular stance to win that election. He is a tough guy, meek sounding voice notwithstanding.

Is he the best leader we've ever had? Probably not.

Doing the job for which he was elected? Probably so.
