22. I understand its a saying
It just doesn't do right by me. I'm sorry, but it doesn't make me feel as if we have progressed in the last 50 years. I would like to see the AA (and people of all ethnic groups) become Americans. To label oneself only causes divisions. I don't usually answer about my race or gender because I want to be a person, not a person who is stereotyped into certain agendas. The thing I always ask is "what if the majority were doing it?" What is there was White Entertainment Television? What if there was Ivory magazine? I'm not saying that people shouldn't identify themselves to their past, but you can't have it both ways. You can't be the same and different at the same time. So, we have reached a fork. Do we vote the issues or do we vote race or gender? Many of the truly progressive candidates have left, so I think the discussion is almost moot. But, I'll tell you this, I wouldn't vote for Condoleeza Rice just because she ran for office. And I think more people need to look at the election from outside of their comfort zone.
