If I were 30 years old, I might be able to more easily identify with your extrapolated position.

But my history takes me back to the 1940s, and I recalled a good deal of it quite vividly. Dad was a very political guy -- always a Democrat in the "solid South." (Solidly Democratic!). He was elected Councilman, Vice Mayor, and finally a judge. Politics is our sports... and the same is true in my 36 years with Al.

Jack Kennedy promised us "the moon" in 1960. As you know, he was gunned down in 1963. That dream came through long after he was dead. The continuity goes back before you were born and before I was born.

The OP just echoed some of my cousin's feelings. My cousin was born in 1944.

As it is, I still see that Bill Clinton did a pretty darn good job, given what came before and after him.
