38. You should be proud. Viet Vets "lost the war" in the eyes of too many
of the old Vets. They saw on TV the undisciplined manner some showed. It wasn't their fault, discipline fell apart near the end. The soldiers knew the war was shit. All they were doing was staying alive and making sure their brothers survived too. That anger and breakdown of discipline was army wide. I remember even at our post high on an African volcano, there was much unhappiness. We started doubting the mission. Some of us were very unhappy over our government's response to the USS Liberty murders. Our government sided with Israel and against our brothers. There were desertions, drug and alcohol problems. Fighting and sabotage was commonplace.
